Loving Neighbors Mission Camp is a home rehabilitation project sponsored by the Garden United Methodist Church.
We work hard to improve the quality of life in our community through service and compassion. Loving Neighbors Mission Camp provides no-cost repairs to the residences of homeowners who have special needs but have limited resources. When we help our neighbors live safely and securely in their own homes, we feel we are doing God’s work.
LNMC Home Rehabilitation Program
Through Loving Neighbors Mission Camp, local and church youth and skilled adult supervisors will conduct construction and repairs during the month of June.
Loving Neighbors Mission Camp will provide labor and materials at no cost to the homeowner/applicant. This is a free program.

How to Qualify
Prospective Loving Neighbor homeowners must meet the following criteria to be considered for our Home Rehabilitation Program:

Complete and agree to the terms of the application

Complete agree to the terms of the release forms

Demonstrate a need for safe, secure housing.

Meet the program’s income guidelines of a low to moderate income household
-
Own or be purchasing a home in which the owner resides for at least twelve (12) months before applying.

Property must be current on all taxes and mortgage payments.

Applicant must be willing to show a copy of the deed.

All pets can be securely kept away from campers.
This program is a grant and does not require repayment by the owner.

What are the rules of camp?As Christian people and representatives of participating churches, we commit ourselves to uphold certain moral standards of behavior. These include: Anything considered illegal for minors under civil and criminal law in Virginia is illegal to bring to Loving Neighbors Mission Camp. This would include tobacco use, vaping, alcohol consumption, and possession of firearms, weapons, or fireworks. Visitation between males and females in sleeping areas is prohibited. All participants are expected to be in designated places at all times, and to have a cooperative attitude. All participants are expected to respect the host church, the property of other campers, the homes and belongings where work is being done, as well as the designated work camp neighborhood. Any damage to the host church will be the sole responsibility of the person or persons who cause the damage, and the corresponding responsible adult(s). Quiet time begins one half-hour following the close of the last organized activity, and continues until 6:00 a.m. the following morning. All participants in Loving Neighbors Mission Camp are expected to be in their rooms during quiet time and to be respectful of others so that all may get plenty of rest. No outside visitors allowed on the work site or at the host church except parents of campers. Attire should be representative of the “church” at all times. Please dress respectfully!!! Any person leaving camp for any reason; MUST notify Camp Director. Youth Camper can only be picked up by a parent or legal guardian. LNMC is NOT responsible for any damage or theft to personal vehicles. Personal YOUTH Cell phones will NOT be allowed on work sites, during worship or during organized activities. If the cell phone of the youth is taken up it will not be returned until close of camp. All Campers & Volunteers are expected to assist in Camp Headquarters Clean Up – Prior to leaving Friday.

What should I wear?All clothing should represent the church mission and be worn respectfully. Shirts will be worn at all times. While working on-site, work clothes will be required for safety and proper representation of the program: Work Shirts: Old cotton shirts, T-shirts Pants: Old shorts or pants Closed Toe Shoes At least one throw away outfit for painting Do Not Wear: Sandals or flip-flops will not be allowed on the work site as they represent a safety hazard Baggy clothing that could get hung on equipment, tools, or work area. Provocative clothing not representative of a church mission No midriff or low-cut blouses No low- rise pants or shorts. No swimsuits on work site Clothing for evenings and outings will also be needed: Causal, respectful evening clothing Swimsuit & cover-up MOST OF ALL BE SURE TO PRESENT YOUR COOPERATIVE, SELFLESS, HARD WORKING ATTITUDE!!!

What are the sleeping arrangements for youth participants?Overnight arrangements for the duration of the weeklong camp will be held at: The Garden United Methodist Church 2709 Greendale Ave, Norfolk, VA 23518 At the end of each day, youth participants will be provided transportation back to a local host church for an evening of fun, fellowship, and worship. Girls and boys will have separate sleeping quarters with adult supervision.

What is the refund policy for youth campers?Refunds will be considered on a case by case basis, showing grace.
